Benefits of breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a wonderful and natural thing to do! There is no shame in it, even in public. If you’re considering or wanting to know why breastfeeding is good for you and your baby then keep on reading!

*I want to strongly emphasise this post is in NO WAY meant to shame or look down on bottle feeding. Nor does it suggest that bottle-feeding is any less than, or has less benefits than, breastfeeding. I understand that not everyone can breastfeed and that is 100% okay! I actually never exclusively breastfed my baby. She was on an IV for the first 3 days of life (with my colostrum used as well) and then combination fed afterwards. So please feel no shame or guilt if you cannot breastfeed exclusively or at all

Bonding moment

I seriously underestimated the bond that breastfeeding creates. It’s this strong mutual feeling of love you both feel for each-other

*As stated above, this does not mean that if you bottle-feed you don’t form a bond. Feeding your child in any way will equally strengthen and build a wonderful bond between you both

Antibodies help build immunity

The antibodies you have in your body from having fought off illness in the past passes on to your child in the precious early months before they have their first vaccines. These antibodies support your baby’s immune system in protecting them against illness. (This does not mean they may not be ill)

Free!

Breastfeeding is, of course, free! At least on the whole but, don’t forget, you may need additional items such as a nursing pillow, pumping equipment, bottles to store breastmilk etc,.

Thanks for reading! Again, I must stress that you should not feel any guilt or shame if you are not able to breastfeed for any reason. Either way, the most important thing is your baby is feeding and the bond between you two will be strong regardless
