Outside play is so important for all children. The vitamin D from the sun is good for their growing bones. These outdoor activities for toddlers are designed to be done at home but, if you don’t have a garden, most of these can be done at your local park too.
Kicking a ball
A toddler version of football can be played here without the formal rules that they may not understand yet. They’ll practice their gross motor skills with this activity. Your toddler will enjoy kicking the ball in whatever direction and making a fun simple game out of it
Paddling pool
If you’re able to get a small paddling pool for your garden. They can be bought cheaply in TK Maxx (where I got mine) or you could search for a good second-hand one on Facebook marketplace. I’d recommend not getting one that’s too big. A little depth of water will do just fine for your toddler to splash and sit in. A paddling pool entertains my little one for a good half an hour. Fetch some bath toys and throw these in for your toddler to play with
Messy play/sensory tub
A sandpit tub is a great idea if you don’t have a beach near you. Bring the seaside home where you can teach your toddler to build a sandcastle
Paint and foam is another great idea for sensory play. Fill the tub with shaving foam and use non-toxic paint to make it pretty colours for your toddler to enjoy exploring
Skittles
A kiddie version of bowling. You can buy a set of skittles complete with a ball on Amazon. This game helps develop motor skills in your toddler and can be fun for the whole family
Tricycle/toy car
Set your toddler up for learning to ride a bike in the future with a tricycle. They’ll have great fun learning to ride around and develop their motor skills at the same time. A toy car is also good fun as they can copy and “drive” the same way mum or dad does
Toddler workout
Release some energy and keep your toddler healthy and active with a mini exercise. Keep it fun and simple by jumping around, running on the spot and star jumps (jumping jacks). Do the workout to music your toddler loves and join in yourself!
