Outdoor day trips with your toddler

There are so many exciting day trips you can take with your toddler! This post is designed to suit most areas, countries and regions instead of one particular place or city so anyone can bring their toddler to these places nearest to you.

Day trips can be pricey so I’ve recommended some affordable and free options too. Check your local area as some places offer free (or subsidised) entry for small children at this age. I’ve also included indoor options so you can take your toddler out in all seasons

Aquarium

Your toddler will marvel at the shining blue waters and the fishes. This is also a great learning experience as you can point out the animal and help your toddler learn their names. Teach them all the animals that live in the sea and practice the names of colours with the colourful fish

SEALIFE is free entry for under 2’s!

Farm

The farm is a fantastic place for your toddler to explore and learn about the animals. Some farms have petting areas where children can pet small animals and have them on their lap. Practise with your toddler the sounds each animal makes

Fete/fair

A fete is like a smaller funfair but where the majority is stalls. This is still a great family day out as your toddler can play games such as hook-a-duck. There is also usually toy and book stalls for children which are sold at an affordable price

Funfair

Funfair are a version of fetes/fairs that have more rides, many of which are kid-friendly. The teacups and the carousel are great rides for toddlers!

A great free option for a morning or afternoon trip. Libraries usually have a little children’s section perfect for toddlers and small children to play in and be read to

Playground

A local playground near you makes for a great short trip out. Even for a small child the baby swings are great fun

Park

This could combine with the playground but I’m talking about a nature park where your little tot can run around the fields and feed the ducks by the pond or lake

Soft play

Soft-play centres are usually cheap and have little spaces for smaller children to happily play in. It might give you a chance to sit down for 10 minutes with a coffee!

The zoo is another fantastic animal day out your toddler will love! See the safari animals and teach your little one what countries they come from
